Co Rentmeester retrospective at Foam Fotografiemuseum Amsterdam celebrates Life photographer's genre-spanning career

Co Rentmeester, an esteemed Dutch photographer, showcased his first significant retrospective at Foam Fotografiemuseum in Amsterdam. The 89-year-old, who created 22 covers for Life magazine between 1966 and 1972, attended the event with the book "Co Rentmeester: Witnessing Life," published by Lannoo. Notably, he is the sole Dutch photographer to have received the World Press Photo award on two occasions: in 1967 for a Vietnam War photograph and again in 1973 for a portrait of Mark Spitz. His journey began after he competed as an Olympic rower in 1960 and pursued photography studies in Los Angeles. His impressive portfolio includes war coverage, sports imagery, and wildlife photography, contributing to National Geographic and The New York Times Magazine following Life's format shift in 1972.
