CK Reed Illustrates Reimagined Driskill Grill in Austin

Chicago-based artist and Surface contributor CK Reed was invited to Austin for the reopening of The Driskill Grill, a historic steakhouse inside the 139-year-old Driskill Hotel. The two-day visit, hosted by MML Hospitality, included stays at the hotel and visits to other MML properties like Pecan Square Cafe and Rosie's Wine Bar. The restaurant is led by Executive Chef April Bloomfield, her first venture in Texas, who brings an ingredient-driven approach while preserving the room's history. Reed's illustration captures the evening's choreography, from a New York Sour with a personalized Driskill ice cube to dishes like fried avocado, tuna carpaccio, and prime rib carved with theatrical flair by a server who crowned each plate with a Yorkshire pudding.
