City of Sydney Creative Studios Offers 30 Subsidized Workspaces in CBD

institutional · 2026-10-10

Situated close to Gadigal station and Sydney's Town Hall, the City of Sydney Creative Studios offers 30 spaces for musicians, visual artists, performing artists, and digital creators. Since 2022, Brand X has managed the facility under a 99-year peppercorn lease stemming from a Voluntary Planning Agreement with developer Greenland. The complex features rehearsal studios and a live-in apartment. Each month, hundreds of creatives utilize the studios, which can be booked hourly at reduced rates. Dylan Goh, a street dancer and Palette Session producer, utilized the apartment for international artists and conducted workshops, emphasizing that the project relied on subsidized venue hire and skilled technicians. Rennan Dizon, who leads The Figure Room life drawing class, appreciates the adaptable layout and prime location. Tenancies are open to Sydney arts organizations like MusicNSW and the National Association for the Visual Arts. According to Brand X Director James Winter, the studios reflect the City of Sydney's dedication to supporting the local creative community, providing high-quality equipment and specialized assistance. Brand X also oversees the Artist Pass program, residencies, performance initiatives, and artist commissions for the building's entrance, Bathurst Street window, and Ok Cool café. The studios are currently available for bookings.
