Cité internationale des arts presents To Make Space for the World

The Cité internationale des arts in Paris is hosting the exhibition "To Make Space for the World," which explores how contemporary artists engage with cultural internationalism. Featuring 16 artists from 15 countries who have been in residence at the Cité between 2003 and the present, the show examines the concept of the international as a lived experience, encompassing negotiation, translation, hospitality, and displacement. The exhibition highlights the uneven nature of international exchange, acknowledging both its opportunities and its dependencies, while never fully escaping political and cultural asymmetries. The Cité internationale des arts, a renowned residency program, serves as the starting point for this reflection, which considers the promises, contradictions, and afterlives of cultural internationalism.
