Cinematographer Bebe Dierken on Travel, Yellow Kaftans, and Athens

German-born cinematographer Birgit (Bebe) Dierken, known for work on 'Blood Diamond' (2006), 'Victoria' (2015), 'Bridgerton' (2020), 'Sexy Beast' (2024), and 'Midas Man' (2024), shares her travel habits in Wallpaper*'s new series 'In Transit'. Dierken always travels with something yellow, especially a yellow kaftan from Starstyling with a foil print resembling a camera or train. She never sits in seat 9B after a flight on a Tupolev Tu-134 where the ceiling cracked open at 30,000 feet. She counts rows to emergency exits on every plane or train, packs for who she is, and overpacks. Her favorite travel souvenir is a hand-carved chair from South Africa's Transkei region, engraved 'The Bebe Platz' by director Edward Zwick. She feels most at home in Athens, Greece, where she cried upon arrival. Dierken prefers aisle seats, late flights, and pretzels as a snack.
