Cinecittà Studios Return to Profitability with Major Hollywood Productions

Cinecittà Studios in Rome reported a €1.1 million operating profit for the 2025 fiscal year, marking a significant recovery from substantial losses the previous year. The turnaround is attributed to multiple high-profile Hollywood productions filming at the facility, including Mel Gibson's 'The Resurrection of the Christ,' Antoine Fuqua's untitled Netflix film starring Denzel Washington as Hannibal, and Netflix's live-action 'Assassin's Creed' series directed by Johan Renck. Studio CEO Manuela Cacciamani noted that international commercial activities have expanded significantly, with turnover increasing by €8.9 million to €30.5 million and EBITDA doubling to €14 million. The studios are undergoing a €233 million renovation funded by the European Union's post-pandemic recovery fund, scheduled for completion in June. Upgrades include 25 modern sound stages, 10 hectares of backlot space, and restored water tank facilities, increasing production capacity by 60%. Italy's 40% uncapped tax rebate for international productions, along with skilled local crews and advanced technical facilities, continue to attract major projects. Post-production services at Cinecittà have also been utilized for films not shot on-site, such as Tim Burton's 'Wednesday' and Luca Guadagnino's 'After the Hunt.'
