Chronolith Installation Explores Materiality and Time at Milan Design Week 2026

Chronolith is an architectural pavilion created by DAAA Haus in collaboration with Recobel/Halmann Vella for the 2026 Interni exhibition during Milan Design Week. The installation responds to the 'Materiae' theme, which examines materials in contemporary design through multidisciplinary approaches. Constructed from reconstituted limestone blocks, the structure presents this material as a sustainable, circular, and technically advanced option. The pavilion's design takes the form of a dial, with a central pole casting a moving shadow throughout the day, creating an experiential relationship between light, architecture, and temporal perception. Visitors engage with a space that functions both as shelter and as an instrument for observing natural cycles. The project positions architecture as a mediator between geological timescales and human experience, encouraging awareness and slowness. Additional partners include Altern Lighting for lighting design, Made Studio for structural engineering, and Jet Freight for logistics. The installation represents a significant collaboration that elevates material innovation within architectural discourse.
