Christopher Nolan's 'Odissea' Breaks Box Office Records Worldwide

Christopher Nolan's highly anticipated film 'Odissea' has shattered box office records in its opening weekend, grossing nearly €10 million in Italy and over €230 million globally from July 16 to 19. Of the global total, $121 million came from the U.S. market. This marks Nolan's strongest opening weekend ever, surpassing 'The Dark Knight Rises' which earned €218 million in 2012. In Italy, the film attracted 1.17 million viewers, capturing 85% of the weekend box office share across 594 screens, with an average of €16,825 per screen—far exceeding the typical €3,000–5,000 benchmark for a successful release. Italy ranked fourth globally for opening weekend earnings, behind the U.S., the U.K. (Nolan's birthplace), and France. The film's success is partly attributed to premium large format screenings (IMAX and 70mm film), which command higher ticket prices, though most Italian viewers saw it in standard theaters. Internationally, 'Odissea' screened in 73 countries across over 25,000 screens. It achieved the most profitable opening weekend ever in 11 countries for Universal Pictures, and in 48 countries for Nolan, including France, Italy, Spain, Brazil, the Netherlands, and Poland. The only major markets where it did not top the opening weekend were Vietnam (beaten by a Detective Conan anime) and Argentina.
