Christophe Cherix named new MoMA director
Christophe Cherix, MoMA's chief curator of drawings and prints, has been appointed the museum's next director, succeeding Glenn Lowry who stepped down in September after a 30-year tenure. The board of trustees voted unanimously for Cherix, citing his curatorial leadership, artist relationships, and scholarship. Cherix, a Swiss native with a degree from the University of Geneva, joined MoMA in 2007 and became chief curator in 2013. He has curated major shows including Yoko Ono: One Woman Show (2015), Adrian Piper: A Synthesis of Institutions (2018), and Betye Saar: Legends of Black Girl's Window (2019). He will assume the role in September.
