Christine Kozlov Exhibition at Raven Row Explores Conceptual Art Contributions

An exhibition at Raven Row in London presents the work of Christine Kozlov (1945–2005), focusing on her role in the Conceptual Art movement from the mid-1960s to late 1970s. The show highlights Kozlov's involvement in this radical artistic direction that emerged in the late 1960s as a theoretical and politically left-leaning response to prevailing styles like high modernism, Minimalism, and Pop Art. Conceptual Art prioritized ideas over physical objects, often employing everyday materials such as office supplies, photocopies, typewriters, and sound recorders, with works frequently taking the form of documentation, information, or readymades. The exhibition features nearly all works Kozlov contributed to group exhibitions between 1968 and the mid-1970s, a period when Conceptual Art was primarily showcased through collective presentations, some of which she helped organize. It also contextualizes her practice through connections with peers including stanley brouwn, Douglas Huebler, On Kawara, Joseph Kosuth, Adrian Piper, and Lawrence Weiner. Kozlov's collaborative efforts from the early 1970s into the mid-1980s are represented, including work with The Red Krayola, Art & Language, Joan Jonas, and Robert Rauschenberg. After moving to the United Kingdom in 1977, she created her final piece in the exhibition, which responds to the first Gulf War. Curated by Rhea Anastas in partnership with the Christine Kozlov Estate and Alex Sainsbury, the exhibition runs until April 26, 2026.
