Christina Quarles Presents New Exhibition at Hauser & Wirth Los Angeles

Artist Christina Quarles has opened a solo exhibition titled 'The Ground Glows Black' at Hauser & Wirth's Downtown Los Angeles gallery. The show runs from February 24 to May 3, 2026, featuring recent paintings and drawings created in response to the historic Los Angeles wildfires that destroyed her home in early 2025. Quarles presents dense, energetic compositions using acrylic paint with digital stenciling techniques, exploring themes of displacement, resilience, and overlapping realities. The exhibition includes her largest modular painting designed for reconfiguration during the display, along with five new charcoal works created through erasure and cutting processes. Gallery modifications enhance the viewing experience by referencing fire aftermath and black gradients.
