Christie's London Auction Features Islamic and Indian Art Treasures Including Rare Mamluk Glass and Mughal Carpets

Christie's will present an auction titled Art of the Islamic and Indian Worlds including Rugs and Carpets in London on April 30. The sale features a diverse selection of artworks, with notable pieces including a Mamluk gilded and enamelled glass footed bowl from the Golden Age of Islamic glassmaking, estimated between £1.2 million and £1.8 million, and a Mughal Indian 'Flower and Lattice' carpet with an estimate of £500,000 to £700,000. These items are among five works being offered by the Toledo Museum of Art in Ohio to support their acquisitions fund. The auction also includes rugs and carpets from regions such as Persia, the Caucasus, Anatolia, and Central Asia. One significant carpet is The Holms Hepburn Coronation Carpet, which was placed under the throne during the coronations of King Edward VII in 1902 and King George V in 1911, as well as the wedding of H.R.H. Princess. The event highlights masterful craftsmanship and represents a key moment in the art market season, showcasing historical and cultural artifacts from Islamic and Indian traditions.
