Christie's April Photography Auction Features 300 Works Including Rare Irving Penn Pieces

Christie's has announced an online photography auction scheduled to run from April 3 to April 17. The sale will present over 300 significant photographic works covering both the 20th and 21st centuries. The collection includes vintage and modernist pieces from the early 1900s alongside postwar and contemporary photographs. Notable artists featured in the auction include Richard Avedon, Diane Arbus, Helmut Newton, Andy Warhol, Nan Goldin, Hiroshi Sugimoto, Sally Mann, and Andreas Gursky. Rebecca Jones, who leads Christie's Photographs department in New York, highlighted that the auction includes a substantial grouping of works by Irving Penn, with several images appearing at auction for the first time. Penn is recognized as one of the most important photographers of the 20th century, known for his compelling still lifes, vibrant dye-transfer prints, and influential fashion photography. The auction aims to showcase the evolution of photographic art through carefully selected works from various periods and styles.
