Choque Cultural and Casa Redonda launch national mapping of women in urban art for documentary

Galeria Choque Cultural and Casa Redonda Films&Arts have launched the Mapeamento Artistas Urbanas Brasil 2026, a nationwide initiative to identify female urban artists across all five regions of Brazil. The mapping supports the documentary Rua e Crua – Artistas Urbanas do Brasil, directed by Tatiana Lohmann and produced by Casa Redonda for Canal Curta!, in partnership with Choque Cultural. The film is in production and editing, with a premiere expected in the second half of 2026. Artists are invited to submit portfolios and videos of their work; selected material may be included in the documentary. The mapping aims to create a comprehensive panorama of women's presence in public space through graffiti, muralism, stencil, lambe-lambe, pixo, and xarpi. Although urban art has over five decades of history initially dominated by men, female artists have increasingly occupied walls, facades, and collective spaces, expanding visual repertoires and proposing new readings of city, identity, and territory. Submissions for the mapping are open until June 30, 2026, via an online form.
