Three Chinese ships recently passed through the Strait of Hormuz, a key maritime route, as PetroChina addressed operational impacts from Middle East instability. At an annual results conference in Hong Kong on Monday, PetroChina chairman Dai Houliang stated that the company's Middle East investments faced varying degrees of disruption, with crude oil and natural gas imports via the strait comprising around 10% of its total operating volume. He noted that over 90% of PetroChina's oil and gas volume comes from self-produced resources, imports outside the Middle East, and long-term contracts, amid unexpected regional developments since late February. On Tuesday, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Mao Ning confirmed in Beijing that three unnamed Chinese vessels had transited the strait following coordination with relevant parties, expressing thanks for assistance and calling for a swift ceasefire in the Gulf. Vessel tracking data indicated two Chinese container ships moved through the strait on Monday, coinciding with Iran's legislative move to impose transit fees, strengthening its control over this strategic chokepoint.
