Chinese AI Labs Yoolee and InfiX.ai Challenge Thinking Machines Lab with Industry Focus

Yoolee and InfiX.ai, two AI laboratories based in China, have revealed their intentions to compete with Thinking Machines Lab, a start-up in the United States established by Mira Murati, a former executive at OpenAI. These Chinese entities are shifting their focus towards tailored AI solutions for specific industries, aiming to lower expenses and improve privacy, rather than participating in the competitive frontier AI race. Founded last year with support from venture capital firms such as Lanchi Ventures, Yoolee AI seeks to develop self-evolving AI agents that can undertake tasks that are currently too expensive for human labor. Zhang, who became the chief operating officer at Beijing's Zhipu in 2023 before leaving last year, envisions his new venture as a blend of Thinking Machines Lab and Palantir, a prominent US data software company that assists large enterprises and governments in managing their AI systems. These AI agents could range from personal healthcare advisors to travel coordinators, potentially creating new revenue opportunities for businesses in these fields.
