China Urges Global AI Cooperation Ahead of Xi-Trump Summit

In anticipation of an upcoming meeting between U.S. President Donald Trump and Chinese President Xi Jinping, China's Minister of Science and Technology, Yin Hejun, has advocated for international collaboration on artificial intelligence. He highlighted the necessity of collectively tackling both the prospects and dangers associated with emerging technologies. During the G20 Innovation Ministerial Meeting in the United States, which took place from Monday to Tuesday, Yin remarked that AI development is currently in an 'unprecedentedly active' phase, presenting both opportunities and challenges. His comments, released on the Ministry of Science and Technology's website on Wednesday, occur amid rising technological tensions between the two superpowers. Analysts from Citi Research, led by Yu Xiangrong, indicated last month that restrictions from Washington are unlikely to significantly impact China's AI exports, as trade in this sector is already limited. The Xi-Trump meeting is scheduled for later this month, with the G20 forum providing a venue for China to promote cooperation over competition in AI.
