China's MedBot Toumai Surgical Robot Gains EU Approval, Baichuan-M4 AI Tops HealthBench
The Toumai Remote surgical robot from Shanghai MicroPort MedBot has achieved CE mark certification from the European Union, enabling its unrestricted marketing throughout EU member countries. This teleoperated device, which utilizes 5G technology for remote laparoscopic procedures in various fields including urology, general surgery, thoracic surgery, and gynecology, is the first of its kind to receive such certification. Before gaining EU approval, the robot facilitated the UK's inaugural robotic telesurgery, where a surgeon in London conducted a prostatectomy on a cancer patient located 2,400 kilometers away in Gibraltar. MedBot has distributed over 300 Toumai units in more than 60 markets globally. Additionally, the clinical AI model Baichuan-M4 surpassed international competitors in OpenAI's HealthBench benchmark, representing a significant achievement for China's medical AI industry.
