China's education blueprint targets tech talent and self-reliance

On Monday, a blueprint released by the State Council presented 15 key initiatives aimed at elevating China’s status as an educational leader, in response to talent gaps caused by global technological competition and falling birth rates. The strategy prioritizes vocational education, science, and engineering, along with the establishment of internationally recognized doctoral training institutions. It advocates for elite foreign science and engineering universities to form partnerships in China and for leading firms to manage or collaborate on vocational schools. Specific goals include around 100 regional industry-education partnerships, 200 vocational training facilities in essential sectors, over 100 engineering and technology hubs, and approximately 300 training centers for top students in core disciplines. The Ministry of Education highlighted that the primary objective is to enhance education's contribution to economic and social progress amid demographic shifts and technological changes.
