China Pavilion at 61st Venice Biennale opens with Dream Stream

exhibition · 2026-06-03

On May 8, the China Pavilion unveiled its exhibition, Dream Stream, at the 61st Venice Biennale. Organized by the Art Museum of the China Academy of Art, the pavilion draws its title from Dream Stream Essays (Mengxi Bitan), authored by Shen Kuo, a scholar from the Northern Song Dynasty. The exhibition employs the concept of streams as a metaphor and dreams as a horizon of experience, aligning with the Biennale's central theme, In Minor Keys, through a fluid poetic approach that connects Eastern philosophy with modern art. Included in Dream Stream are calligraphy, installations, and technology-driven pieces. Noteworthy is the international debut of the video game Black Myth: Wukong as a form of game art. Additionally, E-mythical Beasts, crafted by a group of young artists, envisions a future inhabited by algorithmically transformed mythical beings. E-Seed highlights groundbreaking research published in Nature.
