ai-technology · 2026-10-13

According to a report from Inner Mongolia Daily on Monday, China Mobile has finalized a $403 million expansion of its data center located in Hohhot, Inner Mongolia, which has increased its computing capacity to 20,100 petaflops. Previously, the center functioned at 6,700 petaflops, as indicated by a 2024 report from the state-operated People's Posts and Telecommunications News. A petaflop represents one quadrillion calculations per second. Out of the new capacity, 16,700 petaflops are allocated for artificial intelligence and smart computing applications. The expansion covers an area of 44,500 square meters, comparable to six soccer fields, and provides a total power capacity of 120 megawatts. This initiative is part of China's larger strategy to enhance artificial intelligence infrastructure, establishing Inner Mongolia as a significant center for extensive computing resources.
