Charles Gaines Debuts New Plexiglas Works at Hauser & Wirth Paris
Charles Gaines, a pioneering conceptual artist known for systems-based practice, will present his first solo exhibition in France at Hauser & Wirth's Paris gallery in June. The show features a new sequence of Plexiglas works from his Numbers and Trees series, transforming photographs of acacia trees taken during a 2023 trip to Tanzania into layered meditations on difference, identity, and interpretation. Alongside these, Gaines will exhibit the latest installment of his Manifestos series, developed during a residency at the gallery's Somerset location in 2025, applying musical logic to two landmark American legal rulings.
