Chanel Acquires Charvet, Met Objects Valued at $95M, Ana Mendieta at Tate Modern

Chanel has purchased Charvet, the renowned Parisian shirtmaker celebrated for its custom shirts, aiming to safeguard its craftsmanship and legacy while ensuring creative autonomy. This acquisition follows previous collaborations with artistic director Matthieu Blazy. Bruno Pavlovsky from Chanel emphasized a historical connection to Boy Capel, a former Charvet patron. In other news, the Metropolitan Museum of Art relinquished items worth $95 million after seizures in June, which included ancient sculptures obtained from 1971 to 2001. Since 2017, 120 items linked to trafficking have been removed. A life-sized bronze Laocoön fetched £13.6 million at Sotheby's London, nearly six times its estimated value. The Tate Modern will unveil an Ana Mendieta exhibition on July 15, showcasing her iconic pieces. The Sharjah Architecture Triennial is scheduled from November 14, 2026, to April 14, 2027.
