Chaïm Kaliski's Haunting Holocaust Drawings Revealed in First Major Paris Exhibition

The Musée d'Art et d'Histoire du Judaïsme in Paris is hosting the inaugural solo exhibition of Belgian artist Chaïm Kaliski (1929–2015), featuring 120 drawings from a prolific collection of over 5,500 works created from 1989 until his passing. Known as Jim d'Etterbeek, Kaliski began his artistic journey at the age of 60, capturing his family's Holocaust narrative. His father, Abram, was detained in Brussels on 12 February 1944 and ultimately died at Auschwitz. Curated by Virginie Michel alongside Joël Kotek and Laurence Schram, the exhibition is set to take place from 22 January 2026 to 13 December 2026. It will also include a 352-page book from La 5e Couche, featuring 350 drawings and contributions from Kotek, Didier Pasamonik, and a preface by Kaliski's nephew, Jonathan Zaccaï.
