Centre Pompidou Hanwha to launch in Seoul with Cubist exhibition in June

In June, a new branch of the Centre Pompidou will open in Seoul, following a partnership established in 2023. Located in a repurposed aquarium in Yeouido, the Centre Pompidou Hanwha has been redesigned by French architect Jean-Michel Wilmotte into a four-story space featuring two primary galleries. The programming will focus on reinterpreting the French museum's collection within the context of Korean culture. Over the next four years, it intends to host two exhibitions annually from the Centre Pompidou’s collection, along with two to three showcases of contemporary Korean art. The opening exhibition, 'The Cubists: Inventing Modern Vision,' will examine the evolution of Cubism and its ties to Korean art. This new site adds to existing branches in Malaga and Shanghai, with additional locations set to open in Brussels later this year and in Iguaçu Falls in 2028. Meanwhile, the Paris museum is undergoing renovations.
