Centre Pompidou Francilien opens in Massy with 30,000 sq m conservation hub
In Massy, Paris, a new conservation and storage facility for the Centre Pompidou's collection has been revealed, set to open in March with a budget of €105 million. Named the Centre Pompidou Francilien and created by Philippe Chiambaretta's PCA-STREAM, the facility covers 30,000 sq m, including 13,000 sq m dedicated to storage and 4,000 sq m for restoration workshops. This site is essential for housing artworks that will not be on display during the main Centre Pompidou's renovations, which are scheduled to last until 2030. The collection, comprising approximately 150,000 modern and contemporary pieces—the largest in Europe—will be transported over two years by 645 trucks. The inaugural exhibition, titled 150,000!, is set to launch in March, with local authorities contributing €42 million to the initiative.
