Centre Pompidou Francilien Opens in Massy with 150,000 Works and Free Preview Weekends

The Francilien branch of the Centre Pompidou has officially opened in Massy, Essonne, housing a collection of 150,000 pieces from the Musée National d'Art Moderne. This 30,000 m² facility, created by architect Philippe Chiambaretta, is located near the postponed Massy-Opéra station on Line 18, just a 20-minute stroll from the Massy-Palaiseau RER B station. Unlike the Boijmans depot, its reserves are not available for public viewing. The inaugural exhibition, titled "150,000," is scheduled for March 2027. Director Xavier Rey noted that the Centre Pompidou lends out as many as 9,000 works each year. Additionally, three weekends of free previews will take place on October 17-18, 24-25, and 31-November 1, leading up to the grand opening on March 17. Local initiatives will include residencies and a micro-school for dropouts.
