Céline Dion Debuts Custom Chanel Gown Inspired by 1997 Oscars Dress at Paris Concert

other · 2026-10-15

Céline Dion concluded her last week of concerts in the Paris region wearing a bespoke Chanel gown inspired by the silver dress she donned at the 1997 Oscars. The original design, crafted by Karl Lagerfeld from the spring 1997 couture collection, was reimagined by current Chanel designer Matthieu Blazy, featuring a sweetheart neckline and a more structured silhouette. The ensemble was made from embroidered muslin over a padded, corseted toile bustier, adorned with raffia at the neckline, glass crystal rhinestones, seed beads, and glass beads. Created at the 31 Rue Cambon ateliers, it included 6,000 jewels and 5,000 beads, taking over 1,380 hours to complete. Additionally, a new comète necklace was designed in platinum and 18-karat white gold, featuring 1,080 diamonds totaling over 67 carats, inspired by Gabrielle Chanel’s 1932 Bijoux de Diamants collection. Dion performed at the Plenitude Arena in Nanterre, France, and plans to resume her tour in May 2027. Notably, in 1997, she was the first artist to sing twice at the Oscars, performing “Because You Loved Me” and a cover of Barbra Streisand’s “I Finally Found Someone.”
