Celina Eceiza's Ofrenda Installation Opens at HALLE FÜR KUNST Steiermark in Austrian Debut

Argentinian artist Celina Eceiza presents her first European museum solo exhibition at HALLE FÜR KUNST Steiermark in Graz, Austria. The installation Ofrenda, originally produced by Museo Moderno and shown there from September 2024 to March 2025, opens on October 24, 2025. Curated by Sandro Droschl, director of HALLE FÜR KUNST Steiermark, in collaboration with Agustina Vizcarra, head of Exhibitions at Museo Moderno, the exhibition runs through January 18, 2026. Born in Tandil in 1988, Eceiza creates immersive environments where architecture becomes a breathing body covered in thousands of meters of hand-dyed fabrics sewn collectively. The work transforms walls, ceilings, and floors into soft, movement-sensitive surfaces. Her practice combines painting, drawing, and sculpture using textile techniques like patchwork, collage with found objects, plaster, and pastel chalk. The exhibition features two spaces from the original project curated by Jimena Ferreiro at Museo Moderno in 2024. A yellow room reinterpret works from the museum's collection through textile banners inspired by artists like Alberto Heredia, Juan del Prete, Noemí Gerstein, Yente, and Nicolás García Uriburu. A red room contains monumental chalk drawings on fabric and hand-dyed carpets depicting transforming bodies with organic, wrinkled surfaces. Eceiza's work references still life traditions, 20th-century art movements, Greco-Roman antiquity, and 1960s hippie culture. Production was directed by Iván Rösler with Julieta Potenze as producer. The exhibition represents a significant international step for the artist, challenging conventional exhibition practices through a 'soft museum' approach.
