CBS News Radio will cease operations on May 22, 2026, following an announcement made last Friday. The shutdown affects 700 affiliate stations, including KNX in Los Angeles, which has carried CBS programming since 1936. The closure is part of broader staff reductions impacting 6% of CBS News employees. Station owner Audacy, which acquired CBS radio stations in 2017, stated it will seek alternative national news providers to maintain programming. Audacy's all-news stations, reaching approximately 9 million monthly listeners, provided about one-third of CBS News Radio's U.S. coverage. Potential replacements include ABC News Audio and Fox News Radio.
