Catholic bishops lead border procession for migrant dignity
More than 100 Catholic bishops, nuns, priests, and parishioners processed across the US-Mexico border from Nogales, Arizona, to Nogales, Sonora, on Friday evening. The event coincided with commemorations of America's 250th anniversary. Bishop James Misko of Tucson celebrated mass at Sacred Heart Church overlooking the border fence. Participants prayed the rosary and were joined by Mexican counterparts. Sister Eileen McKenzie, a Franciscan nun working with migrants in Ambos Nogales, noted the deadly heat at 36°C (96°F) and the desperation of those crossing. The United States Conference of Catholic Bishops issued a statement opposing 'the vilification of immigrants' under President Donald Trump.
