Catherine Delors Publishes Historical Novel 'L'Inconnue de Whitechapel' Revisiting Jack the Ripper Legend

Catherine Delors, a Franco-American lawyer and writer, has released her third historical novel titled 'L'Inconnue de Whitechapel' through Héloïse d'Ormesson editions. The book explores the infamous 1888 Whitechapel murders attributed to Jack the Ripper, focusing on a fictional survivor named Mary Jane Kelly. Set against the backdrop of London's impoverished East End, the narrative examines social tensions, anti-Semitism, and the lives of marginalized communities during that period. Delors, born in 1969 and living between Los Angeles and Paris, previously authored 'Gabrielle ou les infortunes de la vertu' (2022) and 'Blanche et la bonne étoile' (2023). Her new work blends historical investigation with crime fiction elements, reconstructing the atmosphere of fear and suspicion that gripped London. The novel specifically addresses the police's focus on Jewish refugees as suspects, including figures like Aaron Kosminski, while depicting violent anti-Semitic riots. Published on April 9, 2026, the book presents a parallel world of criminals, dockworkers, prostitutes, and the working class. Delors approaches the material with a detective's rigor, piecing together what she describes as the first modern serial killer case.
