Casa Continuum: A Tropical Residence Dissolving into the Hillside in Costa Rica
Casa Continuum, a residence spanning 1,600 square meters, was crafted by Inverse Project and is situated within the tropical dry forest of Peninsula Papagayo along Costa Rica's Pacific coastline. Instead of positioning itself at the highest elevation, the house integrates seamlessly into the hillside, creating a cohesive architectural experience influenced by the landscape, climate, and horizon. This project delves into the architects' concept of 'Essential Architecture.' Finished in 2025, the design team comprises lead architects Richard Hammond and Rudy Schalger, alongside Camila Arce Chagnon and Zetty Alonzo. Studio Kúa managed the landscape architecture, with contributions from Mauricio Baltodano and Roberto Gonzalez. Structural engineering was executed by DIESA Ingenieros Estructurales S.A., while Proinsa served as the general contractor. Alvaro Fonseca – Depth Lens captured the photographs, and manufacturers included Kebony and Biotile.
