Carly Rae Jepsen Releases Double Album 'Day and Night' and Prepares Broadway Musical

Carly Rae Jepsen has released a 24-track double album, 'Day and Night,' on September 18. The album explores themes of love, motherhood, and personal growth, with the first song written with her husband, Cole Marsden Greif-Neill, titled 'No Labels, I Love You.' The couple married at the Chelsea Hotel in 2025 and welcomed their son, Ilya, earlier this year. Jepsen is also working on a Broadway musical adaptation of '10 Things I Hate About You,' set to open in 2027, for which she wrote music and lyrics with Ethan Gruska, and the book is by Lena Dunham and Jessica Huang. In an interview with Vogue, Jepsen discussed the album's conception, her songwriting process, and balancing motherhood with her career. She cited musical influences such as ABBA, Minnie Riperton, Dijon, and bossa nova, and revealed that her wedding song was 'Baby' by Gal Costa. The album is divided into 'Day' and 'Night' sections, reflecting different emotional states. Jepsen also reflected on her career, including the impact of 'Call Me Maybe' and the fanbase she built with the album 'Emotion.' She expressed excitement about her future in musical theater, inspired by Cyndi Lauper. The interview was edited and condensed.
