Carlos Nazario's 'Silver Lining' Blends Magazine and Art Book With Solange, Erykah Badu, and Pieter Hugo

publication · 2026-10-19

Carlos Nazario, the former fashion director at i-D and now the style director-at-large for Harper's Bazaar, has unveiled *Silver Lining*, an art book and magazine hybrid that began four years ago. The title draws inspiration from John Milton's *Comus*. Designed by creative director Ferdinando Verderi and produced by Daniel Mason, the cover features UV-sensitive ink. Notable contributions include Pieter Hugo's portraits of India's hijra community, Erykah Badu photographed in Tokyo by Fumiko Imano, and a series focused on young Puerto Ricans by Oliver Hadlee Pearch. Additional contributors are Solange, Ming Smith, Carrie Mae Weems, and Sarah Harrelson. Nazario characterized the project as a reflection of personal and cultural experiences, also styling for the Met's "Superfine: Tailoring Black Style."
