Canada to Participate in Eurovision Song Contest from 2027

Canada will join the Eurovision Song Contest starting in 2027, marking the first new entry since Australia in 2015. The European Broadcasting Union (EBU) announced that CBC/Radio-Canada, the Canadian public broadcaster, was admitted as a full member last week, enabling the country's participation. Previously, CBC/Radio-Canada was only an associate member. To allow Canada's entry, the EBU amended its statutes to remove a geographical restriction. Australia, which is also not a European country, has participated for years under special permissions as an associate member. Canada has shown strong interest in Eurovision: during the last edition, it was among the top voting countries among non-participating nations, and Canadians were among the largest buyers of tickets from non-European countries. The competition will begin for Canada in the semifinal stage.
