Camera Intelligence's Caira Camera Blends Smartphone Connectivity with Interchangeable Lenses

Camera Intelligence, formerly Alice Camera, has launched the $995 Caira camera, a device that pairs with iPhones via MagSafe to combine smartphone connectivity with interchangeable Micro Four Thirds lenses. The camera features a 12-megapixel sensor from the Panasonic Lumix GH5S, 64GB of internal storage, and a 5000mAh battery. It connects to Google Nano Banana generative AI servers for curated effects like background removal and golden hour simulation, though full prompt-based AI generation was removed after criticism. The Caira handles shooting and processing while the iPhone serves as the interface via a dedicated app, offering manual controls for shutter speed, aperture, and gain. However, the device faces handling issues, with the iPhone attachment being wobbly and blocking the thumb grip, and autofocus is limited to single-point without subject tracking. The camera's AI effects are slow, taking up to 30 seconds, and output is capped at about 4 megapixels. While lens compatibility with Olympus/OM System and Panasonic Lumix lenses is strong, the overall experience is described as clunky, with the product appealing primarily to small business owners for product photography. Alternatives like the Xiaomi 17 Ultra with a camera grip offer similar conveniences without the bulk.
