Cambi Auction House Presents Specialized Murano Glass Sale in Milan

Cambi Casa d'Aste is organizing an auction titled 'Importanti Vetri di Murano' dedicated to Murano glass, scheduled for April 14 in Milan. The sale features 149 lots curated by Marco Arosio, director of the 20th-century decorative arts and Murano glass department at the auction house. Arosio expressed pride in presenting this collection, noting it represents nearly a decade of specialized catalogs and describing the assembled works as extraordinary. Highlights include pieces from the private collection of heirs of painter Renato Tomassi, featuring a ceramic item, a lead glass ornament, and three vases created by Hans Stoltenberg Lerche for the Fratelli Toso glassworks in the early 1910s, with estimates ranging from €10,000 to €40,000. Other notable lots include a red glass paste succulent plant by Napoleone Martinuzzi (estimated €2,500-3,000) and a rare hexagonal transparent pink vase with gold leaf by Carlo Scarpa for Cappellin (estimated €8,000-10,000). Another iconic Scarpa vase from the Corrosi series, produced by Venini, is also featured (estimated €8,000-10,000). A significant piece is a rare Venini vase from the Mosaico Multicolore series with submerged multicolored cane tile decoration (estimated €20,000-25,000), with Arosio recalling a similar vase from the same series sold for €200,000 in 2016. The auction also includes celebrated glassworks by Fulvio Bianconi from the collection of former French ambassador Gérard Gaussen, previously honorary president of the French Committee for the Safeguard of Venice. The sale concludes with a collection of international glass artists not produced in Murano, assembled by gallerist Louise Berndt since 1997, alongside sculptural works by her husband, master glassmaker Loredano Rosin.
