ByteDance targets early 2025 for new CPU to power AI infrastructure

ByteDance, which owns TikTok, is set to finish designing its next-gen CPU by early 2024, with plans for mass production and wider use by the second half of 2027. To speed up this process and secure manufacturing capacity, they’re teaming up with Qualcomm, a well-known chip maker from the US. Since late last year, an initial version of this custom CPU has been used internally, and the finalized design might come even sooner due to high demand. This development is part of a shift towards more complex computing needs driven by AI advancements. The new CPU is crucial for ByteDance's goal of building its own silicon and integrating custom hardware into its AI systems.
