Buzigahill Spring 2027: Zero-Waste Fashion Inspired by African Independence

Kampala-based label Buzigahill presented a zero-waste collection at Berlin Spring 2027, drawing on African independence-era style. Designer Bobby Kolade upcycles secondhand clothing imported to Uganda from the US, Europe, and UAE, reworking shirting, khakis, denim, and hoodies into sharp, minimalistic silhouettes. The collection features abbreviated patchwork dresses, short-sleeved jackets, and tailored shorts with boxer-style waistbands. Kolade cited two cultural figures: Kenneth Kaunda, Zambia's first president known for his Kaunda suits, and Princess Elizabeth Bagaaya, Uganda's first female lawyer and justice minister, whose 1960s style inspired the opening patchwork dresses. Kolade noted that Kenya's parliament recently banned the Kaunda suit in favor of colonial three-piece suits, calling the move "extremely sad." Buzigahill operates on a zero-waste philosophy, never discarding textiles during upcycling.
