Brown & Brown Architects' monograph 'Scottish Modern' showcases 16 years of regional modernist residential design

Brown & Brown Architects has unveiled its inaugural monograph, titled 'Scottish Modern,' published by Artifice Press, marking 16 years since its establishment in Royal Deeside in 2010. This publication highlights residential designs that harmoniously combine traditional materials with striking forms, seamlessly fitting into the Scottish landscape. Notable projects include Tidal House, Lower Tullochgrue House, Harmony House, and Cairn House. The firm initially gained acclaim for its country houses in the Outer Hebrides, Lake District, and Firth of Clyde, focusing on sustainability. In 2022, it received the Architecture Practice of the Year award at the Scottish Design Awards. Influences on their work include Morris and Steedman, Peter Womersley, and Alan Reiach. Recently, they were tasked by Stella McCartney to design a waterside home, which has drawn local comparisons to a 'Second World War concrete bunker.'
