Brooklyn Museum to Present Pearlman Collection Modernist Exhibition This Fall
The Brooklyn Museum will host an exhibition titled 'Cézanne to Modigliani: Gifts of Modern Art from the Pearlman Collection' from October 2, 2026, to April 18, 2027. The show features over 50 European modernist works assembled by collector Henry Pearlman and his wife Rose over three decades. It includes paintings, sculptures, watercolors, and drawings by artists such as Paul Cézanne, Amedeo Modigliani, Vincent van Gogh, Édouard Manet, Edgar Degas, and Chaïm Soutine. The exhibition highlights Soutine's 'View of Céret' (1921–22), which sparked Pearlman's interest in modernism. It also incorporates archival materials like photographs and letters to contextualize the collection. Several pieces will join the Brooklyn Museum's permanent holdings after the exhibition closes, including two Modigliani portraits and a limestone bust—the first works by Modigliani to enter the museum's collection. These acquisitions are part of a sharing agreement with LACMA and MoMA. Lisa Small, senior curator of European art at the Brooklyn Museum, noted the significance of the gift and the final opportunity to view the collection together. The Pearlman Collection focuses on Impressionist and post-Impressionist art, with a strong emphasis on Cézanne's works.
