Brooklyn Cheese Warehouse Sale Draws Crowds for Artisanal Tastings

On Saturday, a warehouse sale hosted by C. Hesse Cheese in East Williamsburg, Brooklyn, attracted hundreds of attendees for a monthly event featuring artisanal cheeses and natural wine. Organized by Caroline Hesse, a 33-year-old entrepreneur who founded her wholesale distribution business in 2022, the sale offered a variety of cheeses sourced from producers across the United States and Europe. Hesse's clients include notable New York restaurants such as Michelin-starred Bridges, Wild Cherry, and Le Veau d'Or. The event, which required free RSVPs, sold out its 500 spots quickly, boosted by recent media coverage from outlets like Food52, Caper, and an appearance on Tamron Hall. Attendees lined up outside the industrial building, with families and cheese enthusiasts like Jamie Shapiro and VIP regulars Joan and Tom Mulry participating. Shapiro noted a family haul of seven to nine pounds of cheese, while the Mulrys have supported Hesse since 2020. The sale featured cheeses such as baby gouda, Vermont cheddar, Parmigiano-Reggiano, and Alp Blossom from Germany, with music and wine enhancing the atmosphere. Hesse's father, John, assisted with sales, reflecting on her career influenced by his culinary background. Hesse started the warehouse sales in January 2023 to generate cash flow, and Saturday's event exceeded $10,000 in revenue. Shoppers described the experience as a blend of farmers market, cocktail hour, and sample sale, emphasizing community and enjoyment.
