Britney Spears Biopic Lands Director Jon M. Chu and Writer Liz Meriwether

Universal Pictures has secured the film rights to Britney Spears's memoir The Woman in Me, with Jon M. Chu (Crazy Rich Asians, Wicked) set to direct. Marc Platt, Oscar-nominated producer of La La Land, is developing the project, and Spears confirmed her involvement on X. Liz Meriwether (New Girl, The Dropout) will adapt the screenplay. The biopic will cover Spears's life from her Louisiana childhood and Mickey Mouse Club days through her superstardom, relationship with Justin Timberlake, conservatorship, and 2021 emancipation. Potential leads include Sydney Sweeney, Addison Rae, Dove Cameron, and Millie Bobby Brown, who expressed interest before the book's release. The film is in early development with no release date.
