Alison Friend, a British artist born in 1973, creates oil paintings featuring animals with human-like qualities that explore emotional narratives. Her work draws from European portrait traditions while depicting contemporary animal subjects in domestic settings. Friend's childhood in South Yorkshire and early experiences with art following her father's death shaped her approach, which balances painterly discipline with emotional accessibility.
