British Art Show 10 Announces 'A Chorus of Strangers' Theme and Over 30 Artists

Ekow Eshun will curate the 10th British Art Show, titled 'A Chorus of Strangers,' featuring more than 30 artists. The exhibition opens in Coventry from 2 October to 10 January before touring to Swansea, Bristol, Sheffield, and Newcastle Gateshead. Organized by Hayward Gallery Touring, the show explores three thematic sections: 'Moments of Being,' inspired by Virginia Woolf; 'Ways of Living,' drawing from Stuart Hall; and 'States of Nature,' referencing Timothy Morton. These themes examine tensions between the individual and the other, culture and identity, and environmental awareness. Eshun stated that artists use uncertainty and contradiction to create works favoring affinity over isolation, addressing social fractures and environmental fragility while offering gestures of kinship. The participating artists include Okiki Akinfe, Alex Margo Arden, Liz Johnson Artur, Alvaro Barrington, Shiraz Bayjoo, Lubna Chowdhary, Shawanda Corbett, Jesse Darling, Ufoma Essi, Joy Gerrard, Louise Giovanelli, Hannah Quinlan and Rosie Hastings, Kudzanai-Violet Hwami, Nnena Kalu, Jasleen Kaur, Christina Kimeze, Julianknxx, Matthew Krishanu, Alastair Mackinven, Melanie Manchot, Lindsey Mendick, Emma McNally, Dala Nasser, Jack O'Brien, Nengi Omuku, Precious Okoyomon, Hannah Perry, Mohammed Sami, Rae-Yen Song, Emma Talbot, Nicole Wermers, and Osman Yousefzada. The exhibition aims to illuminate art's ability to cross boundaries between self and others, human and natural worlds, and past and future.
