Brazil's Amorim: Latin America and Europe sidelined in US-China AI race

During the International Security Conference at Forte de Copacabana in Rio de Janeiro, Celso Amorim, Brazil's top foreign policy adviser, expressed concerns that Latin America and Europe are sidelined in the AI race dominated by the U.S. and China. Organized by the Brazilian Centre for International Relations, in partnership with the Konrad Adenauer Foundation and the EU delegation in Brazil, the conference highlighted Amorim's call for the Global South to act through Brics. He emphasized that rare earths and data are matters of sovereignty and noted how technology can deepen existing power disparities. Under President Luiz Inacio Lula da Silva, Brazil seeks to draw investment and tech from both nations while maintaining neutrality, aiming for a balance through Brics and the Global South.
