Border Soundscapes II: Pino Musi and Paolo Spaccamonti Release Hybrid Vinyl-Photo Book
Milanese label Die-Schachtel released 'Border Soundscapes II' on April 30, a limited-edition box set (200 copies) combining black-and-white photographs by Pino Musi with guitar compositions by Paolo Spaccamonti. Conceived by label co-founder Bruno Stucchi, the project pairs a 4.5-meter accordion book of Musi's architectural images with a vinyl record featuring two 20-minute suites. Each photograph is allotted 1 minute 40 seconds of music, creating a synesthetic experience where sound and image merge. Spaccamonti, joined by electronic musician G.U.P. Alcaro, composed music that evokes the metaphysical suspension of Musi's urban landscapes, referencing artists like Fennesz, Ben Frost, Tim Hecker, and Neil Young. The box set is printed on Fedrigoni paper. Musi describes his photographic practice as an 'esprit de géométrie' and sees Spaccamonti's interpretation as a new mode of boundary-crossing.
