Blaze Type and INTDEV Release Server Mono, an Open-Source Font Built for Terminal Legibility

publication · 2026-10-19

Blaze Type, a French foundry, has introduced Server Mono, its inaugural commissioned open-source typeface, created in collaboration with Seattle's INTDEV under the SIL license. This font is available for free download, modification, and production use. INTDEV's Jimmy Lee sought a monospaced type family to enhance legibility in terminals and web typography. Designers Matthieu Salvaggio and Tim Vanhille crafted two styles—Regular and Slanted—drawing inspiration from Apple's San Francisco Mono and ASCII art. Each glyph features a fixed width for consistent code indentation and includes specific disambiguation elements. The design emphasizes spaciousness and vertical rhythm, presented in a specimen that highlights various colors and art direction, steering clear of dark IDE screenshots.
