Blackmagic Design Unveils $175 UltraStudio Express 3G Capture and Playback Devices
Blackmagic Design has launched the UltraStudio Express 3G series, which includes two compact USB4 devices for capture and playback, each priced at $175. The UltraStudio Express Recorder 3G is designed for capturing HDMI and 3G-SDI, while the UltraStudio Express Monitor 3G is intended for playback. Both devices are USB-powered, allowing for convenient portability without the need for external power supplies. They support SD and HD video formats up to 1080p60, as well as compressed formats like Apple ProRes and DNxHD, and offer 10-bit uncompressed video. Utilizing the DeckLink API, they are compatible with various software, including DaVinci Resolve and Adobe Premiere Pro. CEO Grant Petty highlighted their affordability and portability, noting they can operate on laptop batteries. They are currently available through global resellers.
